About
Hey, there!
It was always a bit profound to me that we go to the doctor to mend a broken bone, but when we have mental or emotional problems (at least in my experience) we try to push it down, put on a brave face, and fake it 'til you make it. But if you've been faking it for so long and you still haven't made it... doesn't that mean it's time for a change?
I became a counselor because I've seen the impacts of mental health difficulties in my own life and the lives of people I love, and I'm passionate about empowering others to live their best lives. No one deserves to silently suffer from poor mental health. And I became a counselor educator because once I got started in the counseling field I became so enthralled… I just couldn’t stop!
My name is Ashley Burks and I'm a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Indiana (#39004786A). I have a Ph.D. in Counselor Education, and I'm a National Certified Counselor (#1722658). To learn more about what an LMHC and NCC are, feel free to head over to the FAQ page.

I grew up playing in the dirt, loving on all my pets (cats, birds, and dogs - oh my!), and riding horses in the backyard of my childhood home. I come from humble beginnings and I learned an unspoken language of love and connection through all my interactions with animals, family members, and friends. I also learned to love the outdoors and that there is a sense of wholeness, connection with oneself, and simplicity that sometimes only nature can offer.
As a result, I anchor my work in a relational and wellness-based approach that really focuses on helping you find connection and balance in your life - that means your physical health, mental/emotional health, spiritual health, and connection to others and nature. Using a relational approach, I help clients recognize how connected (or disconnected) we are from others, how the environment we live in can leave us feeling some type of way, and how we navigate choice in our lives. My goal in counseling is to help you find connection that restores you, create an environment that shelters you, and enact change in your life that supports you. We’ll always be working towards a balanced, authentic life for you.
