Let’s Work Together
Supervision
You did it. You graduated with your master’s degree, you passed your NCE (or maybe you’re studying your booty off), and now it’s time to really start living your dream. But… where do you start? How do you become the best counselor you can be? What was that one theory you learned with that one technique?
Beginning your career as an LMHC-Associate can be liberating, confusing, and frustrating all at the same time. You have so much passion for what you’re doing, yet there’s still so much you know you can learn. On top of that, you’re constantly being bombarded by this new training and that new approach which can really leave you feeling like you don’t know anything at all and why did you even get your master’s degree. The imposter feelings are real real.
Don’t fret - that’s where having a great supervisor comes in. A great supervisor mentors you and guides you while providing a supportive, yet challenging environment that empowers you to bounce back from mistakes and learn to grow from them. A great supervisor takes charge when necessary, but also leaves room for you to guide your own learning process. Above all, a great supervisor opens doors for a brighter future.
My goal is to be that great supervisor for you so that you can shine brighter than me. Because I’m a trained supervisor and counselor educator, I’m knowledgeable about how to give you specific, developmentally appropriate, yet tailored feedback. As a counselor educator, I’m well-versed in what your formal training has taught you but I also know what real life experience can teach you outside the classroom. In addition, I don’t give you feedback based on how I view the world, I help you develop your own professional identity so that you can become a competent and confident clinician.
My vision for the next generation of counselors is to see clinicians who know their worth and adamantly advocate for themselves and the profession. I encourage supervisees to engage in deliberate practice that supports mental and physical wellbeing of clinicians over productivity. I also firmly believe that counselors should advocate for their place at the table in our health system. As part of supervision, I mentor Associates in advocating for realistic caseloads, better pay, and equitable treatment among mental health providers. Counselors are uniquely qualified to meet the needs of many people, but it takes a radical change in the public perception of counseling that starts with you.
Consultation
One of my favorite things about being a counselor educator and licensed clinician is continuously learning and sharing new ideas with people. Einstein said it best when he said, “The more I learn, the more I realize how much I don’t know.”
I’m not sure that I’ll ever feel confident calling myself an expert, but I do have extensive knowledge in these areas:
Sex education, sex therapy, and LGBTQ+ affirmative practices
Feminist therapy, intersectionality, and cultural humility
Supervision models and counselor identity and development
